Ernie Sheldon - The Limeliters

Ernie Sheldon performed on three Limeliters albums, shortly after Glenn Yarbrough left the group in 1963: More of Everything , Leave it to the Limeliters, and Limeliters Look at Love in Depth. Today, Alex Hassilev says this last is the worst album they ever made; but I found its out-dated humor absolutely hilarious.

Ernie Sheldon is probably best known for writing the lyrics (with Elmer Bernstein) for what became Glenn Yarbrough's biggest solo hit, "Baby the Rain Must Fall" and lyrics for several other Glenn Yarbrough's songs. He was also a composer and lyricist for movies and television, and for artists such as Perry Como, Di Blasio, Urszula Dudziak, Peggy Lee, Robert Mitchum, Bobby Sherman, and Spiral Staircase. He may be best known for writing the song "Seattle" that became the theme song of the TV series "Here Come the Brides").

In other roles outside The Limeliters, Sheldon was a member of an old group, "The Gateway Singers" - whose membership included a bass player named Louis Gottlieb, long before the Limeliters were formed! He also performed with "Les Baxters Balladeers". He is known for a song called "Green Mountain Boys" which he wrote and The Womenfolk performed on their first album, We Give a Hoot. Speaking of The Womenfolk - Ernie also recorded on album with Joyce James titled "Sing of Laughter, Beauty, and Compassion". He also released at least one solo album, Big Men Brave and Bold.
