About this Site
Welcome to my fan site for The Fabulous Limeliters! This site had its genesis back in December, 1997, not long after I discovered The Limeliters. Yes, I know... most visitors to this website knew and loved The Limeliters several decades before me. But this was the early days of the Internet, and nobody I knew really knew how to create a website. A friend gave me some lessons in HTML, so I practiced my skills with one of my favorite topics - folk music.
Remember, the World Wide Web had begun only a few years earlier. While Tim Berners-Lee created the world's first website, it wasn't until about 1993 or 1994 that the general public had access to visit or create websites.
This website was first created with plain vanilla HTML, and sometime later I moved it to be hosted on Weebly.
After buying and listening to nearly all The Limeliters albums in 1996 and 1997, I attended my first Limeliters concert in early February, 1998. The ensemble then was comprised of Alex Hassilev, Rick Dougherty, and Bill Zorn. Alex gave me his blessing, and even introduced me to the audience with an invitation to visit this site.
A few years later, The Limeliters created their own website featuring the current line-up of the group - www.limeliters.com - and that site remains active. As the group has gone through different members, they often play many of the same songs as the original group, but naturally their repertoire has expanded and evolved over time. If you want to contact the current Limeliters, go to www.limeliters.com.
By conrtrast, the intent of this website is to celebrate The Limeliters from their earliest years, and provide a way for fans to share experiences from all the many decades of The Limeliters have they kept going even when folk music in general was dying out.
Virtually everything on this website is the result of contributions that other Limeliters fans have sent me - photocopies, photos, music and video clippings, etc,
So, if you would like to share new content and make it available here, please send me your suggestions, links, photos, news articles, and whatever else you have that is related to The Limeliters and their career.
Peace,
Harold Wood
