Until We Get it Right (2007)

Album Review by Harold Wood

Our Men In San Francisco Album Cover

With Mack Bailey, Andy Corwin and Gaylan Taylor

This new constellation of The Limeliters is a perfect fit for the 21st century. Sure, old fans of the original Limeliters will never quite get used to new voices singing their favorite Limeliters songs, but it is necessary to keep the music alive and flowing from generation to generation - as folk music is supposed to be.

On this album, be sure to catch Andy's little twist on the lyrics in "Power and the Glory" - a stanza in the Phil Ochs original that was left out by the original Limeliters, and updated to score a well deserved hit against the current administration. As originally written, the line went, "Fear is their weapon, treason is their cry..." Andy changed the word "treason" to "terror" in order to contemporize it. Long live protest music!

Of course, as is traditional for the Limeliters, most of the songs here aren't political at all, and are geared toward simply having fun, but it is nice to have at least a couple of "gotcha" songs in the mix. I appreciate the satirical "That's My Toy" too - - after all, true folk music is all about social commentary, so let's keep it coming!

As a web afficianado, who knows HTML quite well, thank you, even if I am in my late 50's, I'm a little less enchanted with the luddite song "Cuting Edge of Passe.' But I can understand why it is included - it is hilarious and will be appealing to the vast majority, perhaps of their audience (probabaly excluding all of you who found this web page!)

Lots of well-known Limeliters hits on this, plus several new (at least for Limeliters, like the Peter Paul & Mary classic "Stewball") songs are included.

On this album, the last four tracks are live, and include Alex Hassilev on guitar, banjo and bass vocals.

Tracks:

Right From The Start, Power and the Glory, Those Crazy Days, Zhankoye, Rock Me Grandpa, There's a Meetin' Here Tonight, Puerto Vallarta, That's My Toy, Mwa Uka, Cutting Edge of Passe', Harry Pollitt, 40 Year Old Waltz, Have Some Madeira M'dear, Stewball.
